Banu Karatas
About
Banu is a medical student at the Emory University School of Medicine. Born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey where two continents come together, she takes joy in the intersection and juxtaposition of cultures. After graduating from a German high school in Turkey, she moved to the States with her family and attended UNC Chapel Hill with degrees in Global Studies and Political Science.
During her time in medical school, Banu has been involved in Refugee Health Student Organizations, Global Health projects, and various community engagements. She also adopted a cat, and got married during medical school and still maintains a transatlantic long distance relationship with her husband. She is interested in going into dermatology, pursuing global health work, and potentially specializing in peds derm. She is also passionate about compassion studies and mindfulness. Her hobbies include dancing the tango, sailing, and yoga!
