Onyinye Ikwuegbu
About
Onyi is a Nigerian medical student at Rowan School of Osteopathic medicine (RowanSOM). She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry. During her time in undergrad, she worked in a Neuroscience lab that focused on the extinction of drug craving and relapse in model animals where she was directly involved in conducting weekly animal surgeries and training for the lab. Onyi has a passion for tutoring and working in underserved communities. While in undergrad, she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant and tutor for college science courses like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and moved on from there to working as an educational consultant for SAT/ACT and college science classes during her gap year. Through her undergrad to current med school career, she has been directly involved in projects that improve outcomes in underrepresented areas, and some of her work include co-founding global non-profit organizations and improving diversity and diversity-related outcomes at her current medical school. Onyi is dedicated to mentoring and assisting international pre-medical/medical students and students with lower stats to getting into medical school. She started the medical page (@HerMedSeries) on YouTube and Instagram to provide useful information and resources to help others who may be in the same situation as she was in, get into med school. Some of the information she provides include, ways of funding med school as an international, applying with low stats, sending a strong application, etc.
